HEADTEACHER'S MESSAGE
Mayfield School is a co‑educational all‑through academy in Portsmouth, serving pupils from Reception to Year 11. The school traces its history to 1932, when it opened as the Portsmouth Northern Grammar Schools, and has played a significant role in educating generations of local children. As the city’s only single‑site all‑through schools Mayfield provides continuity of education across primary and secondary phases within a single community.
Mayfield School joined the Salterns Academy Trust in 2024, becoming part of a locally focused multi‑academy trust committed to inclusion, aspiration and sustainable improvement. Since joining the Trust, Mayfield has contributed to shared work on curriculum coherence, staff development and pastoral practice, supporting a consistent educational offer across phases.
The school operates from a modern, purpose‑built campus that opened in 2021 following a major redevelopment project. The estate includes specialist teaching spaces, large sports facilities, performance areas and communal spaces designed to support learning, wellbeing and community use, while retaining elements of the historic original site.
