HEADTEACHER'S MESSAGE
Trafalgar School is a co‑educational secondary academy in Portsmouth, serving students aged 11–16. Established in the mid‑twentieth century, the school has a long‑standing role in educating young people from the south of the city and supporting social mobility across its community. The school’s name and identity reflect Portsmouth’s maritime heritage, while its values emphasise respect, aspiration and inclusion.
The school joined the Salterns Academy Trust in 2016, becoming part of a locally rooted multi‑academy trust formed to strengthen educational outcomes across Portsmouth. Since joining the Trust, Trafalgar has contributed to shared school improvement activity, professional learning and collaborative curriculum development, supporting consistent standards and sustainable leadership capacity.
Trafalgar School operates from a large urban campus with a range of specialist teaching spaces, pastoral facilities and sports accommodation. The estate includes dedicated science, technology and arts provision alongside indoor and outdoor sports facilities that are also used by community partners, supporting wider participation and engagement.
The school has been judged Good by Ofsted and is recognised for its inclusive ethos, strong pastoral systems and clear behaviour expectations. Former pupils progress to further education, apprenticeships and employment across diverse sectors, reflecting the school’s impact and its contribution to the wider Trust community.

Staff ensure that pupils receive the precise help they need… They take pride in each other’s successes and take great care to not ‘harm the community’ feel of the school through unkind behaviour. Sanctions for poor behaviour are uncommon because pupils do their best to comply with the high expectations of staff.
